A series of university outreach events has been held across the Chinese mainland to promote an expanded internship program for Macao students, ahead of its 2026 launch in the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin.

Between March 9 and 13, officials from Hengqin's Livelihood Affairs Bureau, together with Macao's Labour Affairs Bureau, visited campuses in Nanjing, Hangzhou, and Shanghai, where around 200 Macao students attended briefings and discussion sessions on career opportunities linked to Hengqin's development.

The internship scheme, initiated by Hengqin, is offcering more than 200 placements across multiple sectors in 2026. It aims to deepen young people's understanding of the island's economic strategy and provide pathways into emerging industries.

This year's program will feature five specialized tracks, including placements within Hengqin's administrative bodies, as well as roles in biomedicine and healthcare, cultural and creative industries, and other priority sectors. A separate stream tied to the Greater Bay Area youth initiative will also be offered.

While most positions will be based in Hengqin, opportunities will also be available in cities such as Changsha and Nanjing, spanning areas including public administration, life sciences, and cultural industries. Universities visited during the outreach included Nanjing University, Zhejiang University, Fudan University, and Shanghai Jiao Tong University.

Now in its fourth year, the campus outreach initiative is designed to connect Macao students with policymakers and employers while raising awareness of opportunities in Hengqin.
