Guangdong's innovation steals spotlight at major job fair

Guangdong Province on March 15 launched the 2026 "Millions of Talents Gather in Guangdong" Initiative in Guangzhou, a program to attract more than one million college graduates to work or start businesses in the province this year.

As part of the year-long initiative, a large spring job fair opened the same day at the Canton Fair Complex and will run until March 16. The job fair brought together nearly 2,000 employers offering more than 85,000 positions.

But beyond the rows of hiring booths, something else caught visitors' attention — a special exhibition of Guangdong products showcasing the province's latest innovations.

At the exhibition, visitors could try a smart stringless guitar, an instrument that uses sensors instead of traditional strings to produce sound. Many were surprised at its ease of use.

"It feels very advanced, but also easy to play," one visitor said. "The music it produces is almost the same as a traditional guitar, and it really shows the charm of technology."

Other innovations on display included AI-powered glasses capable of real-time translation, as well as a creative product known as a "music lollipop," which allows users to experience music through bone conduction. Visitors described the products as both fun and futuristic.

The showcase highlights Guangdong's growing strength in industries such as artificial intelligence, smart devices and creative technology.

Thus, the job fair is not only about employment. It also offers a window into the industries shaping the province's future. For many young professionals, coming to Guangdong may mean more than just finding a job.It could mean helping build the next wave of innovation emerging from China.
