As the Chinese New Year (Feb. 17) approaches, traditional flower markets are in full bloom across Guangdong, lasting until Feb. 16. Among them is Guangzhou's historic Xihu Flower Market, located at the intersection of Xihu Road and Jiaoyu Road in the Yuexiu District of Guangzhou.
"Walking the flower street" is a must-do tradition for locals in the final days before the Spring Festival. In Chinese, "flower" sounds similar to "prosperity and wealth," so bringing flowers home means inviting good luck and fortune for the new year.
Each flower carries a special blessing. Visitors can pick their favorite blooms based on the luck they wish for, making it a joyful and meaningful way to welcome the Year of the Horse.
Join international student Etel and a South reporter on a tour of the Xihu Flower Market that is full of laughter, surprises, and traditional blessings.
