A vibrant "family banquet" for 3,500 people unfolded on March 7 at the Yang Ancestral Hall in Zhuhai, marking the 23rd edition of the long-running Spring Celebration in Honor of the Elderly. In a first for the event, 20 public tables were set, bringing together elders, overseas compatriots, local businesses, and guests to share a unique blend of cherished tradition and modern community spirit.

On the day, the Huafa Community Management and Service Center for Expats invited nearly 10 foreign friends to join the event, where they enjoyed delicious food, appreciated wonderful art performances, and felt the festive vibe and the charm of local clan culture.

Mitra from the United States attended the event for the first time. She arrived early with her companions, found a good spot to enjoy the Cantonese opera and lion dance, and soaked up the lively festive atmosphere. "Here in Beishan, I saw an entire family sitting together, with young people toasting the elders and children performing for them. What touched me even more was that this year, they chose to share that warmth with strangers and the world," she said.
Sekar, also from the U.S. and a first-time attendee, couldn't hide his excitement: "This is such an amazing experience! Seeing over 3,000 people sitting together for a meal is incredible—everyone here is all smiles. I don't understand the Cantonese opera, but the music and the vibe feel so warm and joyful. Learning that this feast has been going on for over 20 years really impressed me. I truly admire how this tradition of respecting the elderly has been passed down through generations. Thanks for inviting us—it's a wonderful chance to see this side of Chinese culture up close!"
