70 overseas Chinese youth gather in Huizhou for a cultural heritage journey

On July 22, the 2025 "Ties of Affection: Chinese Roots Journey" summer camp (Huizhou Camp) officially opened, welcoming 80 overseas Chinese youth from Denmark, Japan, Canada, the UK, Italy, the Netherlands, and Belgium for a cultural heritage experience in Huizhou.

Over ten days, participants will explore the rich cultural and modern landscape of Huizhou. Highlights include visits to Dongpo Memorial Temple to appreciate classical literature, Luofu Mountain to learn about Ge Hong's herbal medicine, and hands-on experiences with intangible cultural heritage and traditional crafts. They will also tour high-tech enterprises to witness innovation firsthand and enjoy authentic Hakka cuisine that connects them to their ancestral roots. These immersive activities provide a well-rounded understanding of Huizhou's historical depth and its dynamic blend of tradition and modernity in the Pearl River Delta.

Mia Fu Binderup, a student from Aarhus Chinese School in Denmark, shared that her mother is from Nanjing, China, and her father is from Aarhus, Denmark. Growing up with Chinese stories, the flavors of her mother's hometown, and visits to China to see relatives and witness the country's transformation, Mia views this journey as an opportunity to deepen her connection to her heritage and create lasting memories in Huizhou. The camp also includes a "Discover the Beauty of Huizhou" segment, encouraging participants to document the city's scenery and camp moments through videos and photos. These will be shared on international platforms to showcase the charm of Huizhou and the Pearl River Delta to the world.
