Adorable golden takin calves debut at Qingyuan Chimelong

Two golden takin calves, just 10 days old, made their public debut at Qingyuan Chimelong Forest Kingdom during the New Year holiday. Born in late December, they are covered in soft gray-brown fur and have yet to develop their iconic horns. In 2025, five calves were born at the park, all of which have successfully joined the herd.

Golden takins are a nationally protected species in China. Their unique appearance—a blend of features from different animals—has earned them the nickname "six-in-one." According to keepers, the calves' coloring provides natural camouflage and will gradually turn a striking golden hue as they mature, while their horns will also begin to develop. Despite their gentle appearance, adult takins are powerful and agile, well adapted to mountainous terrain.

The holiday attracted many families to the park for nature-based experiences. One visitor shared how heartwarming it was to see the calves up close, an opportunity that enriched children's understanding of wildlife.

Qingyuan Chimelong Forest Kingdom now houses more than 30 golden takins. Through scientific management and habitat simulation, the park supports the species' healthy growth and raises public awareness of wildlife conservation.
