Start at Shajing Ancient Market. Covering an area of approximately 260,000 square meters, it is one of the most well-preserved historical conservation areas in Shenzhen, where history and culture intertwine. The area retains many ancient residential buildings from the late Qing Dynasty (1644-1911), along with various archways, ancient wells, relics, and ruins. Examples include the Longjin Stone Pagoda, the still-in-use hexagonal "Weitou Well," the renowned Tianhou Temple, and the highly water-accessible Longjin Waterside Pavilion.
The weathered and aged buildings silently narrate history, blending harmoniously with modern wall paintings as the ancient market revives with vitality and bustling energy.

Next head to Wanjing Tower and Xinqiao Civic Square. Wanjing Tower, a Ming (1368-1644)-style building constructed about 20 years ago, blends brickwork and garden landscaping with the grandeur of a traditional city gate — climb the ramparts for sweeping views over the town. Nearby, Xinqiao Civic Square, with its European-inspired design, is one of Shenzhen's most photogenic public spaces and a favorite spot for couples and casual photoshoots.

If time allows, make a detour to Dinggang Lake Wetland Park. The compact lakeside park is a lesser-known gem where you can picnic, soak up the sun, and, if the timing's right, catch a spectacular sunset. Its peaceful atmosphere is a pleasant contrast to the town's busier streets.
For shopping and modern comforts, visit Wanfeng Coastal City, Shajing's large commercial complex covering roughly 200,000 square meters. It's one of Bao'an's top destinations for dining, entertainment and shopping. The shopping complex also houses Shenzhen's fifth Sam's Club, a 19,000-square-meter warehouse-style store that promises more one-stop convenience for local families.
Practical tips
Wear comfortable shoes for walking; bring water and sun protection, and plan your timing so you can enjoy the sunset at Dinggang Lake if possible.
