A day trip from Guangzhou: Swamp cypress forests and hot springs in Conghua

Conghua's Liuxi Hot Spring Square is a popular winter destination in Guangzhou, known for its swamp cypress trees, which turn a vibrant orange-red during the cold months. These trees create a striking contrast with the clear waters of the Liuxi River and the surrounding forested mountains.

The area is a key part of the Liuxi River region, which includes the Liuxi River National Forest Park. This park is recognized for its natural beauty, with forest coverage reaching 86% in some areas, providing opportunities for hiking and enjoying the outdoors. Beyond the swamp cypress trees, visitors often explore the park's trails and lakes.

Visiting the Area

Getting There: Conghua is about 1.5 hours by car from central Guangzhou. You can also take Metro Line 14 to Conghua Bus Station and then transfer to a local bus (Conghua 12 or Conghua 11) that serves the Hot Spring Scenic Area.

What to Do: In addition to viewing the swamp cypress trees, activities include visiting the hot spring facilities at the Square's posthouse and exploring the wider Liuxi River area. The Liuxi River National Forest Park offers various recreational options.

Best Time to Visit: The swamp cypress trees are most colorful in the winter, making this the ideal season for viewing.
