Portuguese Association of Travel and Tourism Agencies explores Hengqin to deepen tourism cooperation

Representatives of the Portuguese Association of Travel and Tourism Agencies (APAVT) visited the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin on December 5 to survey cultural and tourism resources and explore the potential for multi-destination travel collaboration.

The delegation first visited the Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) Cultural Experience Center, where delegates learned about innovative models that integrate TCM culture with modern tourism, paying particular attention to the development potential of study-tour programs.

They then visited the Serensia Woods Hotel and the Hengqin InterContinental Hotel to gain an on-site understanding of hotel positioning, supporting facilities, and surrounding environments. During their tour of the Chimelong Hengqin Bay Hotel and the killer-whale science show, the group praised the extensive facilities and immersive performances of the Chimelong resort, highlighting its strong appeal as an international leisure destination.

Hengqin's cultural and tourism sector is currently experiencing rapid growth. Policies such as "Macao-Hengqin Group Tours" and "Multiple-Entry Permits," along with joint tourism promotion plans, continue to enhance connectivity between the two destinations. APAVT's visit focused on exploring a tourism cooperation model centered on "Macao + Hengqin."

APAVT representatives noted that Hengqin's leisure-resort offerings complement Macao's rich historical and cultural heritage. By designing cross-regional travel routes and integrating the strengths of both destinations, the region can enhance its appeal to international tourists, especially travelers from Portuguese-speaking countries.

This year marks the 75th anniversary of APAVT. The association has long played an important role in fostering tourism cooperation between Portugal and Macao. For this visit, APAVT sent senior representatives with extensive experience in tourism product development and marketing. Relevant departments in Macao and Hengqin will maintain close communication with APAVT and continue to explore cooperation opportunities.
