Typhoon Tapah makes landfall in south China coastal province

Tapah, the 16th typhoon of this year, made landfall in south China's Guangdong Province at about 8:50 a.m. Monday, according to the provincial meteorological observatory.

The typhoon, with the maximum wind force near its center reaching 30 meters per second, churned ashore at Jiangmen City of Guangdong.

Meteorological authorities forecast that Tapah will continue moving northwest at about 20 km per hour, gradually weakening.
