A spell of unseasonably warm weather has arrived in Guangdong province, with forecasts predicting temperatures will rise significantly above the average for this time of year. This sharp increase follows a recent cold snap, though forecasters note that a persistent and significant difference between daytime and nighttime readings will continue.

The warming trend is expected to persist in the coming days. By the weekend, maximum temperatures in Guangzhou could reach around 27°C—a level that feels almost summery, particularly during the traditional "Major Cold" solar terms. Across southern China, temperatures over the next five days are predicted to be noticeably higher than seasonal norms.
The general forecast for the province is predominantly dry and sunny. While eastern coastal areas might see isolated, scattered drizzle around January 15, the dominant feature is abundant sunshine. However, this dry weather leads to high forest fire risk levels, prompting authorities to remind the public to be cautious with fire use outdoors and at home.
A key aspect of the current weather is the large temperature swing between day and night. This is driven by dry, cold air masses from Siberia that result in clear skies. These skies allow for strong sunshine and warming during the day, but without cloud cover at night, heat escapes quickly, causing temperatures to drop rapidly after sunset.
Due to these sharp swings, residents and visitors are advised to use the "onion-layering" method for clothing, which involves wearing multiple, breathable layers that can be easily added or removed throughout the day to adapt to the changing temperatures.
