Cooler air arrives in Guangdong, with sunshine returning midweek

A spell of mild, sunny weather in Guangdong and surrounding areas is expected to end as cooler air and cloudier conditions move in. A weak cold front arriving on March 9 will bring increased cloud cover and the chance of scattered showers to parts of Guangdong Province.

According to the Guangdong Meteorological Observatory, the affected areas on March 9-10 will include the province's northwest and the Leizhou Peninsula, where light rain may occur. Some parts of the Pearl River Delta are also forecast to have isolated showers. Conditions across the rest of the province are expected to be cloudy to overcast.

In Guangzhou, the meteorological service forecasts that weak cold air will bring more cloud and possible localized drizzle on March 9-10, with slightly lower daytime temperatures. Clearer, sunnier weather is expected to return from March 11, with a greater difference between day and night temperatures.

Temperatures are expected to vary across the region. On the morning of March 9, lows are forecast to be 11-14°C in northern and eastern Guangdong, 14-17°C in most central areas, and 17-21°C on the Leizhou Peninsula. By March 11, as skies clear, morning temperatures in northern and eastern areas could drop to 9-12°C.

Residents are advised to prepare for the change, particularly the wider temperature variation expected later in the week. The weather pattern is typical for early spring in southern China.
