Guangdong to see five cold air events during 2026 Spring Festival travel rush period

The 40-day Spring Festival travel rush began on February 2. Average temperatures across Guangdong are forecast to be close to or slightly above historical norms during the period, while overall precipitation is expected to be below average.

Five cold air processes are expected during this period, including two before Spring Festival, around February 7–8 and February 11–13; one during the holiday, around February 16–18; and two afterward, around February 24–27 and March 8–10. The coldest spell is anticipated in the latter half of mid-February.

Temperatures across various regions will fluctuate under the influence of cold air. Northern Guangdong may experience periods of low temperatures accompanied by cloudy and rainy weather, with frost or ice possible in high-altitude areas. During intervals between cold air processes, fog is expected in parts of the southwestern coastal areas and the Qiongzhou Strait, mainly in the early morning and evening, though prolonged dense fog is unlikely.
