Enjoy Yao culture and winter bamboo shoots in Guangdong's Qingyuan

Qingyuan, Guangdong, invites visitors to a unique cultural and culinary event on January 3, 2026. The festival celebrates winter bamboo shoots through a vibrant mix of Yao and Hakka traditions, food, games, and performances.

The event will take place at the Cultural Square of Diaowei Village, Zhaigang Town (寨岗镇吊尾村文化广场) in Liannan Yao Autonomous County, featuring a range of engaging activities:

- Cultural performances (9:40–13:00): Enjoy Yao and Hakka songs and dances that showcase rich ethnic traditions and local charm.

- Bamboo shoot games (10:30–16:00): Participate in fun contests such as bamboo shoot peeling competition, parent-child relay games, ring toss, and blindfolded bamboo shoot hunting, with prizes for the winners.

- Hakka long-table banquet (12:00–13:30): Savor authentic Hakka dishes in a communal dining experience that highlights local hospitality and flavors.

- Winter Bamboo Shoot Market (9:30–16:00): Explore local agricultural products, mountain goods, handicrafts, intangible cultural heritage items, and snacks in a lively bazaar setting.

- Cantonese chef cooking competition (13:30–15:00): Watch master chefs create dishes featuring local specialties—fish and bamboo shoots—showcasing Zhaigang's culinary artistry.

The festival aims to promote rural tourism and agricultural development through bamboo shoot-themed activities, offering visitors a chance to experience the fusion of Yao and Hakka cultures, enjoy natural scenery, and take home local products.
