Cross-arts spectacle Choreo Musica Soiree to return to Guangzhou's Xinghai Concert Hall

Choreo Musica Soiree, the acclaimed fusion of music, dance, and visual art, will return to Xinghai Concert Hall on September 19 as part of the 5th Greater Bay Area Culture and Arts Festival. It promises audiences a dazzling evening that blurs the lines between concert, dance, and theatre.

First unveiled in 2023 as part of Xinghai Concert Hall's 25th anniversary season, the production immediately captivated audiences with its immersive staging and bold artistic vision. It went on to shine at the 4th Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Greater Bay Area Culture and Arts Festival in 2024, winning acclaim at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre and securing the title of "Best Original Production of the Year" on the "Performing Arts Guangdong" list.

Now, the original creative team from Guangdong and Hong Kong reunites to restage this celebrated production for the 5th GBA Culture and Arts Festival. Co-produced by Xinghai Concert Hall and Hong Kong's Leisure and Cultural Services Department, the performance features artistic direction by acclaimed cross-disciplinary artist Tsang Man-tung, whose visionary stage and costume designs have garnered international awards.

Audiences can expect a complete transformation of the concert hall into an immersive performance arena. The stage design turns the venue into a striking T-shaped runway, with Xinghai's iconic pipe organ appearing in unexpected ways. Reconfigured seating places spectators at the heart of the action, breaking down barriers between performers and the audience. State-of-the-art lighting, sound, and AI-driven visual effects weave together a vivid, multi-layered experience.

The evening's program will showcase the virtuosity of the Guangzhou Symphony Orchestra's leading musicians. Violinist Peng Ke and cellist Pan Chang open with Ravel's Sonata for Violin and Cello, followed by Piazzolla's fiery The Four Seasons of Buenos Aires, performed by the Guangzhou Symphony Chamber Orchestra under assistant conductor Ding Jiaying. The music is brought to life on stage by a cast of outstanding young Hong Kong dancers — including Mai Wan-yee, Ma Shiya, and Liao Xiangmin — who embody both the elegance of classical form and the passion of contemporary expression.

With every movement, color, and soundscape, Choreo Musica Soiree blurs the lines between concert, dance, and visual art, inviting the audience on a journey that is at once mysterious, emotional, and deeply immersive.

In keeping with the festival's spirit of making the arts accessible to all, tickets are available at a special half-price discount, offering an unmissable chance for music and dance lovers to discover this groundbreaking production. On September 19, step into Xinghai Concert Hall and experience the magic of Choreo Musica Soiree — a night where sound becomes vision, and dance becomes music.
