Residents and tourists gather to enjoy this Lingnan cultural feast.
This year's Tapo Temple Fair was held from September 12 to 14 at Tapo Park and Zhaoxiang Park in the Chancheng District of Foshan City. The venue was bustling with a large crowd and vibrant energy, as many local residents and tourists came together to enjoy this Lingnan cultural feast.
The "Water- Passing Ritual"
"Fetch the water!" With a clear and loud call, water was drawn from the ancient Tapo Well, and the "Water-Passing Ritual" began. The solemn "Water-Passing Ritual" symbolizes the continuous flow of Chinese culture, as well as people's shared aspirations and prayers for a better life.
Tapo is the place from which Foshan derived its name and is known as the "Cradle of Foshan." According to historical sources, Foshan originated from Tapo; the water of Tapo has nourished Foshan and witnessed the city's development.
Liang Guocheng, a member of the Foshan Intangible Cultural Heritage Protection Expert Committee and a folk custom expert, said, "It is hoped that through the Tapo Temple Fair, everyone can gain a better understanding of Foshan's history and the pragmatic spirit of its people. Even those who have left Foshan will always remember their roots here."
Inside Tapo Park, the 10th anniversary photo exhibition of the temple fair was formally launched, showcasing the historical development of Tapo and the Tapo Temple Fair. To surprise residents and visitors, commemorative cultural and artistic items such as stamps and pendants were also introduced.
The Tapo Temple Fair is celebrating its tenth year this year. From a traditional prayer activity, the event has evolved into a comprehensive cultural IP that incorporates cuisine, social interaction, cultural and creative products, and intangible cultural assets. Trendy elements have been continuously integrated into the event, ensuring that Lingnan culture is not only passed down through generations but also invigorated with youth.
