Recently, the "Virtual Integration • Boundless Science" popular science reading project by Xinyi Library in Maoming, Guangdong Province, was selected as one of China's National Outstanding Cases, standing out among 210 entries nationwide.
Xinyi's new library has incorporated digital technologies such as VR and MR.
The project's success lies in its innovative use of technology. From the beginning, Xinyi Library integrated VR, MR, and other digital tools to create a unique county-level digital science experience center in western Guangdong. Visitors enjoy immersive experiences such as space exploration, metaverse humanities, and 4D interactive films—all free to the public.
All science popularization projects at Xinyi Library are open to the public free of charge.
Focusing on basic science, local culture, and life safety, the project blends virtual and physical environments with reading and hands-on activities. This innovative approach overcomes resource limitations common to county-level libraries, sparks public interest in science—especially among youth—and strengthens cultural identity.
Xinyi Library offers a diverse calendar of activities throughout the year.
Xinyi Library has gained immense popularity.
Since opening just 18 months ago, the project has hosted over 2,500 events and welcomed more than 100,000 participants, marking a leading example of smart services and cross-disciplinary integration at the grassroots level.
