GuWei Museum, Hong Kong's sole private museum in the Southern District, celebrated its first anniversary on Sept. 19 with the inauguration of a new library lounge to present a year of achievements in cultural promotion and educational programming.
Since opening, the museum has welcomed more than 10,000 visitors and received over 60 social organizations and school groups, and engaged an average of 40 schoolchildren each week.
To mark the anniversary, the museum is showcasing a rare manuscript from "An Authentic Account of an Embassy from the King of Great Britain to the Emperor of China," written in 1797 by Sir George Staunton. This eyewitness account of the first British diplomatic mission to China, led by Lord Macartney, will be on display until the end of the year. The book documents a pivotal moment in modern Sino-Western relations, detailing the British delegation's journey and observations of Chinese customs, complete with illustrations depicting ancient Chinese architecture, clothing and landscapes.

The newly opened library lounge is designed as a research and learning hub. It offers a space for scholars, students and the public to access archives, attend workshops and participate in curator-led discussions to deepen their engagement with the museum's collection.
