The China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA) has recently approved Chaozhou woodcarving as a National Geographical Indication (GI) product. Nationwide, only two products were approved in this round, with Chaozhou woodcarving being the only entry from Guangdong Province.

Chaozhou woodcarving is a traditional Chinese folk art form that originated in Chaozhou, Guangdong Province. With a history spanning over a thousand years, it boasts a rich historical legacy and distinct regional characteristics, and is widely renowned both domestically and internationally for its unique artistic style and exquisite craftsmanship.
To date, Chaozhou has six registered GI products, and the list continues to expand.
