Huizhou has launched an upgrade project for 18 public toilets in residential areas and tourist attractions recently with hardware improvements and enhanced daily management of these facilities.

At the renovated Longfeng Park public toilet, the exterior blends seamlessly with the surrounding environment, while the internal facilities have been comprehensively upgraded. The toilet stalls are equipped with smart sensor-activated flushing devices, making "use-on-demand, flush-on-leave" possible. Status indicator lights installed above the stall doors clearly display "occupied/vacant," significantly improving efficiency. These upgrades have greatly enhanced the restroom experience for both residents and tourists. "The flushing is entirely automated, and there are hand dryers after washing. The whole process is very smart, making it much more convenient now," said Ms. Zhou, a local resident.
The city initiated the comprehensive upgrade of 18 outdated public toilets at the end of 2025, focusing on key aspects such as interior and exterior wall renovations and equipment replacement. Currently, 14 public toilets, including those at Longfeng Park and Jiangpan Garden, have been upgraded and put into use, while the remaining four are being upgraded and expected to be completed by May 2026.
