Winter "snow scenes" of plum blossoms in Guangdong

This January, Guangdong in south China welcomes its own version of "snow scenes," as plum blossoms come into bloom across hills and valleys. White petals blanket forest parks and rural landscapes, filling the winter air with a gentle fragrance. Here is a guide to some of Guangdong's most picturesque plum blossom destinations this winter.

Liuxi River National Forest Park, Guangzhou (流溪河国家森林公园)

Home to one of Southeast Asia's largest plum blossom landscapes, Liuxi River National Forest Park comes alive each winter as tens of thousands of plum trees burst into bloom.

Across rolling hills, white blossoms spread like a sea of snow, dotting the mountains against a backdrop of clear water and lush greenery. From afar, the hills appear dusted with frost; up close, the air is filled with a soft, lingering fragrance. With the peak bloom nearing its end, now is the perfect time to experience this fleeting winter spectacle.

Luogang Xiangxue Park, Guangzhou (萝岗香雪公园)

Xiangxue Park is renowned for its wide variety of plum blossoms. As petals flutter in the breeze, the park transforms into an immersive floral world where pavilions, bridges and winding paths are framed by blossoms like drifting snow. It has also become a favorite destination for visitors in traditional attire seeking poetic winter imagery.

Plum Blossom Valley, Baiyun Mountain Scenic Area, Guangzhou (白云山梅花谷)

Nestled within Baiyun Mountain Scenic Area, Plum Blossom Valley blends natural forest scenery with cultural elements. Plum trees line mountain streams, stone bridges and traditional-style pavilions, creating a tranquil atmosphere reminiscent of a winter fairyland. The main viewing period is expected from mid-January, lasting around ten days.

Plum Garden, Sanzhoutian Forest Park, Shenzhen (三洲田森林公园梅亭)

Hidden within the Maluan Mountain area of Sanzhoutian Forest Park, the plum garden becomes the park's most captivating winter scene. Visitors can climb stone steps through mountain paths, guided by drifting fragrance, until they are met with hillsides adorned with blooms. The flowering season typically runs from January to early February.

Guangdong Lianghua National Forest Park, Huizhou (广东梁化国家森林公园)

Lianghua's plum blossoms usher in one of eastern Guangdong's most anticipated seasonal scenes—locally known as "Lianghua Fragrant Snow." Hillsides are blanketed with blossoms in shades of white, pink and red, some fully open, others still waiting to bloom. Walking among the forest paths, visitors can enjoy the floral views and the gentle sounds of flowing streams and rustling trees.

Shilin Temple, Wuzhishi Scenic Area, Meizhou (五指石景区石林寺)

Near Shilin Temple (石林寺) in Wuzhishi Scenic Area, plum blossoms bloom against striking Danxia landforms, creating a refined contrast of red cliffs and pale flowers. Newly added walking trails and viewing platforms allow visitors to appreciate the scenery from multiple angles during the peak flowering season.

Juhao Village, Chaozhou (居豪村)

Tucked away in the mountains of Juhao Village, plum trees bloom each winter, forming layered seas of white flowers that cascade across hillsides. From above, the village appears enveloped in blossoms; up close, visitors wander through fragrant paths where traditional houses blend seamlessly with the surrounding landscape. It is a serene, immersive winter escape far from urban bustle.
