On the morning of September 8, Typhoon Tapah, the 16th typhoon of the year, made landfall along the western coast of Guangdong. A joint response mechanism for extreme weather was fully activated by the Economic Development Bureau of the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin and Macao Customs.
The Macao SAR issued Typhoon Signal No. 8 at 9:00 p.m. on September 7. Public transportation services in Macao were gradually suspended, and the Lotus Bridge was closed at 10:30 p.m.
Macao changed the signal to No. 3 at 3:00 p.m. on September 8. Public transportation services in Macao have gradually resumed, and it is expected that the number of people passing through the border at Hengqin Port will increase. Residents and tourists are advised to travel during off-peak times.
Several scenic areas in Hengqin have been temporarily closed, including the Hengqin Flower Corridor, Tianmu River Rowing Park, Hengqin Wharf Station, Shanhai Station, Garden Station, Mangzhou Wetland Park, Hengqin National Wetland Park (Erjingwan), and Xiaohengqin Mountain Trail. Tourist entry and camping activities are prohibited until further notice.
