Airports in Guangdong boost services ahead of Golden Week travel rush

As millions prepare to travel during China's Golden Week and Moon Festival,  airports across Guangdong Province are ramping up services to ensure smoother journeys.

Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport expects close to 2 million passengers between October 1 and 8. To improve comfort for long-haul and transit passengers, the airport has added 66 new sleep pods in Terminal 2's international arrivals hall, bringing the total to 116. It has also installed 20 shower facilities (operating 24/7) equipped with hot water, mirrors, and hair dryers.

Shenzhen Bao'an International Airport plans to operate more than 12,700 flights between September 30 and October 9. Passenger traffic is expected to exceed 1.9 million during this period, with a daily average of more than 190,000 and a single-day peak of nearly 200,000. The airport has increased staffing and electric shuttle carts to help late-arriving travelers reach departure gates quickly, aiming to reduce the risk of missed flights.

Zhuhai Jinwan Airport is preparing for 341,000 passengers and 2,190 flights during the same period, with peak numbers expected on October 8. Improved measures include real-time weather monitoring, flexible opening of check-in counters, and streamlined security checks. The airport will also increase shuttle and parking capacity to manage higher ground traffic while providing tailored support for elderly travelers, children, and first-time flyers.

Across all three airports, festive decorations and special events will accompany the operational upgrades, aiming to combine smooth travel with a holiday atmosphere as Guangdong handles one of the busiest travel periods of the year.
