Shenzhen to Nansha in 30 minutes: updates on Shenzhen–Jiangmen Railway

Recently, the final steel girder, which was six meters long, 17 meters wide, and weighed about 72 tonnes, was precisely installed, completing the main bridge of the Guangzhou–Zhongshan–Jiangmen Grand Bridge over the Jiya Waterway, a key project on the Shenzhen–Jiangmen Railway. This is China's first large-span double-side hybrid girder cable-stayed bridge, and the first major bridge on the line to be closed, paving the way for the next stages of girder erection and track laying.

The Jiya Waterway Bridge of the Guangzhou–Zhongshan–Jiangmen Grand Bridge of the Shenzhen–Jiangmen Railway is located in the Zhongshan Torch High-tech Industrial Development Zone, with a total length of 6,896.19 meters. Its main bridge across the Jiya Waterway features a double-tower, double-plane cable-stayed structure with hybrid girders, spanning 788.9 meters in total. The highest tower reaches 140 meters, and the bridge is equipped with 64 pairs of stay cables.

The main span reaches 408 meters, making it the longest span among China's dual-side main hybrid girder cable-stayed railway bridges of its type. This is the first bridge of its kind to span a Class III navigable channel (minimum vertical clearance of 12.5 meters), setting a new record for high-speed railway bridges of the same type in China. Both its scale and technical complexity place it at the forefront of the industry.

Once completed, the Shenzhen–Jiangmen Railway will help establish a half-hour living and economic circle in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, directly benefiting the coordinated development of eastern and western Guangdong and the Pearl River Delta. It will play an important role in improving connectivity across the Pearl River and further completing the east-west high-speed rail corridor in Guangdong.

The Shenzhen–Jiangmen Railway will feature seven stations along the line: Shenzhen Xili (though the Shenzhen–Jiangmen Railway project itself does not include the construction of Xili Station), Shenzhen Airport East, Binhaiwan, Nansha, Zhongshan North, Henglan, and Jiangmen. Among them, Xili and Shenzhen Airport East are underground stations; Binhaiwan, Nansha, Zhongshan North, and Henglan are elevated stations; and Jiangmen is a ground-level station. Xili Station will be integrated into the Xili–Guangmingcheng project. Additionally, a connecting line from Zhongshan Station of the Guangzhou–Zhuhai Intercity Railway to the Shenzhen direction of the Shenzhen–Jiangmen Railway will be introduced, involving the expansion and renovation of the existing Zhongshan Station.

After completion, the Shenzhen–Jiangmen Railway will enable:

✅ Travel from Nanshan Xili to Jiangmen within one hour, and a direct journey from Shenzhen Airport to Zhongshan North Station in just 25 minutes.

✅ High-speed rail connectivity between the Qianhai pilot free trade zone in Shenzhen and the Nansha Free Trade Zone in Guangzhou within 30 minutes.

✅ Further integration of Jiangmen into the "One-Hour Living Circle" in the Greater Bay Area.
