During the first week of the Spring Festival travel (Feb 2-8), Hengqin Port, a major border crossing between Guangdong and Macao, handled more than 790,000 passenger trips, marking a 30.1% increase year-on-year. Daily passenger volume exceeded 100,000 for seven consecutive days.
Cross-border travel demand has surged, showing a clear "two-way flow." Over 560,000 mainland residents passed through the port, up 24.4%, while trips made by Hong Kong and Macao residents exceeded 210,000, a rise of 46.3%.
The growth is partly driven by favorable travel policies, such as the "Hengqin-Macao" travel permit and multiple-entry permits. Approximately 24,000 and 30,000 trips were made using these respective documents during the week, significantly higher than usual.
To ensure smooth operations during the peak travel period, the port has increased staffing, opened all inspection channels, and deployed volunteers to assist passengers.
