More than 400 overseas students from universities including Harvard, Oxford, and Cambridge recently gathered in the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin for a rowing event followed by a talent exchange session.
About 120 students met with representatives from key local enterprises and institutions, as officials outlined incentives to attract international talent. These include short-term free accommodation, a "talent card" offering various services, and a three-day experience program in Hengqin and Macao.

Business and research representatives highlighted the island's low tax policies, transport links, research funding, and growing cultural scene. Some students, particularly those in STEM fields, expressed interest in seeing how research is applied locally, while others hoped to engage with the community.
The event was presented as part of efforts to position Hengqin as an emerging hub for innovation and cross-border collaboration.
