South Korea's Kim Ga-eun advanced to her first Super 750 semifinal after defeating China's second seed Wang Zhiyi 13-21, 21-17, 21-11 at the 2025 BWF China Masters here on Friday.
Kim attributed her victory to effective tactics. "My diagonal shots were working really well," she said. "Since Wang is ranked higher, I didn't feel much pressure and just played with a relaxed mindset, and that helped me perform better."
"She played very steadily. I didn't put enough pressure on her," commented Wang. "This tournament has shown me where I need to improve, especially my endurance and recovery during consecutive matches."

Meanwhile, Chen Yufei of China was edged out by teammate Han Yue 20-22, 21-13, 19-21. Indonesia's Putri Kusuma Wardani was defeated by fourth-seeded Akane Yamaguchi of Japan 21-14, 21-11. Akane is set to face South Korea's top seed An Se-young, who eased past Pusarla V. Sindhu of India 21-14, 21-13.
"Everyone knows how strong An Se-young is, but I'll give it my all and see what happens," Akane said.
In the men's singles, China's Weng Hongyang triumphed over Chi Yu-jen of Chinese Taipei 26-24, 21-12, while his teammate Li Shifeng experienced a straight-set loss to Chinese Taipei's Lin Chun-yi 21-16, 21-15.
The women's doubles saw both Chinese pairs advance to the last four, as Jia Yifan and Zhang Shuxian overcame Yeung Nga Ting and Yeung Pui Lam from Hong Kong, China, and Liu Shengshu and Tan Ning defeated Japan's Rin Iwanaga and Kie Nakanishi.
In the men's doubles, India's Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty eased past China's Ren Xiangyu and Xie Haonan in straight sets. World champions Kim Won-ho and Seo Seung-jae of South Korea also advanced after beating Japan's Takuro Hoki and Yugo Kobayashi 11-21, 21-6, 21-17.
In mixed doubles, Feng Yanzhe and Huang Dongping bested teammates Guo Xinwa and Chen Fanghui 21-11, 21-12, advancing to face world champions Chen Tang Jie and Toh Ee Wei of Malaysia. Their compatriots Jiang Zhenbang and Wei Yaxin also secured a place in the semifinals.
