Nansha's coastal stadium debut: Guangdong Super League sparks urban vitality

Recently, the 2025 Yili Guangdong Football Super League (hereafter referred to as the Guangdong Super League) kicked off at the Greater Bay Area Culture and Sports Center in Guangzhou's Nansha District. Over 25,000 fans gathered to cheer on the Guangdong football team.

The opening ceremony and inaugural match of this year's Guangdong Super League main competition marked the first football event hosted by the newly completed Greater Bay Area Culture and Sports Center Stadium.

This stadium, situated at the southernmost tip of Guangzhou, boasts a suspended roof that can withstand typhoons of up to Category 12 strength. Notably, a 145-meter-wide panoramic window on the eastern side of the stadium faces the Pearl River estuary, allowing spectators to admire the majestic Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link while enjoying the match.

Leveraging its coastal advantages, Nansha has created a new integrated cultural, sports, and tourism experience that combines sea views, live matches, and leisure activities.

In Nansha, football passion is already woven into daily life. The formation of the Nansha Bay Area Youth Team exemplifies the local roots of football in the district. Jointly supported by the Nansha District Sports Bureau and the Nansha District Football Association, the team is coached by local professional staff and is built around the back-to-back Nansha Division A League champions, the Dongguayu Village Team, with an average age of just 23.7 years.
