Cultural exchanges: Latin American writers visit Guangzhou

A delegation of young Latin American writers and translators visited two cultural sites: the Bai'etan Greater Bay Area Art Center and the Museum of the Nanyue Kingdom Tomb in Guangzhou on January 14.

First, the delegation visited the Bai'etan Greater Bay Area Art Center in Liwan District, Guangzhou. With a total construction area of approximately 145,000 square meters and an exhibition area of 40,000 square meters, the building resembles a ship docked on the banks of the Pearl River.

The representatives toured the Guangdong Literature Museum, the Guangdong Museum of Art, and the Guangdong Intangible Cultural Heritage Museum in succession. Inside the halls, they listened to the docent's explanations and marveled at the diversity and exquisite craftsmanship of Guangdong's intangible cultural heritage, lingering before the exhibits, reluctant to leave.

In the afternoon, the delegation visited the Museum of the Nanyue Kingdom Tomb.

María Victoria Cañibano Bianchetti, a young interpreter from Argentina, said she found it fascinating to visit the museum, where she learned about the history of the Nanyue Kingdom, the burial practices of its king, and the numerous funerary objects.

She also noted that, as her career involves trade, she has studied the Maritime Silk Road, so visiting this museum was particularly interesting for her. "Southern China played a crucial role in the Maritime Silk Road. I learned about the exchange of silk for other products from foreign countries, such as certain foods, silver, and other objects discovered alongside the tomb occupants."

María added that the splendid culture reflected in the exhibits of the Nanyue Kingdom Tomb Museum not only provided her with a deeper understanding of the Nanyue Kingdom's history, but also revealed certain similarities between Eastern and Western cultures, such as perspectives on life and death. For her, this was a valuable experience.
