Typhoon "Co-may" makes landfall today; Guangdong braces for a week of rain

At around 4:30 a.m. on July 30, Typhoon "Co-may" (tropical storm category), the eighth typhoon of this year, made landfall along the coast of Zhoushan, Zhejiang. The maximum wind force near the center reached level 9 (23 m/s) at the time of landfall.

"Co-may" is moving toward the east coast of China, while No. 9 Typhoon "Krosa" remains at a considerable distance. However, the extensive monsoon cloud system on the southern side of "Krosa" is affecting the southern coastal regions of China.

From July 30 to 31, most parts of Guangdong will experience thunderstorms, with maximum temperatures ranging between 32℃ and 35℃. On August 1, most areas of Guangdong will be cloudy, accompanied by thunderstorms and localized heavy rainfall. Maximum temperatures are expected to reach 33℃ to 35℃.

The Central Meteorological Observatory is advising the public to remain vigilant against localized heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and gales, as well as potential secondary disasters. Residents are also urged to take precautions against high temperatures, sunstroke, and downpours.
