Meanwhile, meteorological authorities are closely monitoring a developing tropical system. A disturbance over the western Pacific Ocean, located east of the Philippines, intensified into a tropical depression at 14:00 on July 16. As of 14:00 on July 17, the system is situated approximately 640 kilometers east of Manila, with maximum sustained winds near the center reaching 15 m/s (Force 7).
Favorable conditions—warm sea temperatures (29–32°C) and low-level wind shear—are expected to fuel further development, with the system likely to strengthen into the sixth typhoon of the year within 24 hours. Forecasts show it enters the central to northern South China Sea around July 19, tracking west-northwest toward the coast between western Guangdong and eastern Hainan. It may intensify to typhoon or severe typhoon strength (Category 13–14, 38–42 m/s).
Provincial authorities urge the public to stay informed through official channels and prepare for potentially severe weather later this week.
