The Chinese animated film Into the Mortal World, produced by Guangzhou-based Winsing Animation, premiered in over 1,500 cinemas across Russia and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) on July 17.
The film follows a celestial being who descends to Earth and unexpectedly reunites with his long-lost sister. Their emotional journey, filled with love, betrayal, and personal transformation, unfolds through the lens of traditional Chinese star constellation mythology.

"I really enjoy Chinese animation," said one viewer after a screening in Moscow. "Into the Mortal World has a distinct visual style, and the family story is deeply moving. The mythology surrounding the constellations was especially fascinating. It made me want to explore more about Chinese legends."
Winsing Animation states that the film underwent extensive localization to meet the expectations of Russian audiences. The studio worked closely with local partners on translation, dubbing, and promotion, enlisting well-known Russian voice actors to ensure that the emotional nuances of the characters felt authentic.
"Success in international markets requires more effort," said Gu Yanmei, Vice Chief Executive Officer of Winsing. "It takes a clear understanding of local audiences, internationalized storytelling, and strategic distribution partnerships."
Russia is the latest stop in the film's growing international rollout, following releases in 40 countries and regions, including Singapore, Australia, and Thailand. For the next stop, the film is scheduled to be screened on July 20 at the Chinese Film Festival 2025 in Colombia, part of events marking the 45th anniversary of diplomatic ties between China and Colombia.
