Maoming to build first port with annual throughput over 10 million tons

On July 23, a cargo ship carrying 16,000 tons of wheat arrived at Maoming Guanggang Port, successfully completing the unloading, transport, and storage procedures. This operation also served as the heavy-load commissioning of the port's second-phase bulk grain silo system, marking a key milestone in enhancing Maoming Guanggang Port's efficiency in bulk grain handling and intelligent storage capacity.

Located in the Bohe New Port Area of Maoming Binhai New District, Maoming Guanggang Port—Maoming's first 100,000-ton deep-water port—began operations in 2019. Its second-phase project, now largely complete, includes two 100,000-ton general berths and 12 grain silos, each with a capacity of 10,000 tons.

The bulk grain silo system is a core storage facility at the port, featuring advanced automation, environmental dust control, and intelligent monitoring. It ensures efficient transport and secure storage of bulk grains such as corn, soybeans, and wheat. Notably, its smart monitoring system provides real-time data on grain levels, temperature, and humidity, enabling precise control and establishing a strong foundation for long-term grain storage safety.

"The environmental protection technology adopted by the bulk grain silo system can significantly reduce dust emissions, meeting the requirements for building a green port," said a port representative. The port also benefits from an integrated water-rail-road transport network.

Once the second-phase project is complete, the total grain storage capacity will reach nearly 300,000 tons, making it Maoming's first port with an annual throughput exceeding 10 million tons. Final preparations are underway to bring the system online, with the port aiming to become a key grain and oil distribution hub for western Guangdong and to further boost the region's economic development.
