China Southern Airlines and Air Astana have signed a codeshare agreement aimed at expanding flight options between China and Kazakhstan, thereby reinforcing air connectivity.

The deal, announced on July 29, will enable both carriers to place their codes on each other's services linking major Chinese cities with Kazakhstan. Routes covered include China Southern's flights from Guangzhou, Beijing Daxing, Urumqi, and Xi'an to Almaty, as well as Guangzhou and Urumqi to Astana. Air Astana will codeshare on its own services from Almaty and Astana to Beijing, Urumqi, and Guangzhou.

China Southern currently operates the most extensive Central Asian network of any Chinese airline, serving destinations across all five Central Asian countries. Air Astana, the largest airline group in Central Asia and the Caucasus, operates both full-service and low-cost carriers and has won multiple SKYTRAX awards.

Industry observers say the codeshare will not only strengthen business and tourism flows but also enhance broader cultural and economic exchanges between China and Kazakhstan.
