A bamboo shoot farm in Yunzhong Village, Zhishan Town, Jiangmen City, is harvesting a unique crop that has captured the attention of food enthusiasts: raw-edible fruit bamboo shoots. With orders pouring in from across the Pearl River Delta, this innovative agricultural venture is turning bamboo forests into "gold mines" and paving the way for sustainable rural development.

Every year from May to October, Yunzhong Village buzzes with harvesting bamboo shots in its 5.33 hectare bamboo farm. Farm manager Wei Wenbin, who pioneered the project in 2019, harvests fresh shoots daily. "Digging a complete bamboo shoot requires skill," he explained, demonstrating how to gently unearth the tender roots without damaging the plant. The farm now produces over 500 kilograms of shoots every 4 to 5 days.

True to their name, these "fruit bamboo shoots" can be eaten raw like fruit, offering a sweet, crisp flavor. They're also versatile in cooking—perfect for salads, stir-fries with cured meat, or simmering in soup. "They're incredibly fresh and sweet, a true eco-friendly delicacy," said customer Mr. Zhou.

The farm adopts a closed-loop ecological model: black goats graze under the bamboo canopy, feeding on fallen leaves, while their manure is recycled as natural fertilizer, enriching the soil with nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium. This symbiotic system enhances both bamboo growth and goat rearing, embodying the principles of circular agriculture.
