At a press conference on July 17, organizers announced that the 2025 International Wing Tsun Championship will be held from July 26 to 30 at the Qiaoshan Cultural Center in Nanhai, Foshan. The event will bring together 218 teams and over 2,600 practitioners, competing across five major categories.
In addition to the main competition, highlights include the International Wing Tsun Carnival and the debut of the Wing Tsun musical, produced by Mahua FunAge, marking its first performance in Nanhai.
As one of the seven official events of the International Wushu Federation, the International Wing Tsun Championship is the highest-level competition of its kind globally. Starting in 2024, Foshan will host the championship annually for three consecutive years.
To encourage greater youth participation, this year's championship has been scheduled during the summer break. Teams from countries including the U.S., Canada, France, Bulgaria, and Indonesia will compete, with participants ranging in age from 5 to 67. The competition spans five main categories—routines, chi-sau (sticky hands), intelligent Kung Fu pile, mai-san-jong, and sparring—covering a total of 533 individual events.
Guo Fujin speaks at the press conference.
Guo Fujin, Deputy Secretary General of the Guangdong Wushu Association, shared key technical updates at the press conference. The adoption of standardized bare-hand routines has helped unify variations across different Wing Tsun lineages, while showcasing the rich diversity of styles through representative forms.
To encourage broader participation, especially among youth, the competition includes junior and young adult categories. Notably, the introduction of Smart Kung Fu Training Poles integrates technology to improve judging accuracy. Sparring and all-around events will provide a comprehensive test of participants' skills.
Registration is now open via the IWUF and other official platforms, with detailed rules and event guidelines available online.
