Great Bay University completes its first undergraduate admissions

Great Bay University (GBU), a new higher education institution and a key project under the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Development Plan, announced on July 19 the completion of its first undergraduate admissions round for 2025.

The university enrolled 80 physics-track students from Guangdong Province, with a minimum admission score of 622—186 points above the provincial undergraduate cutoff—reflecting the high caliber of its inaugural class.

On the same day, the Third Songshan Lake Mathematics Forum brought together leading experts and academicians to explore developments in mathematics and artificial intelligence. Among the attendees was newly admitted student Lin Xichao from Zhuhai, who said the forum deepened his appreciation for the subject and revealed its richness beyond the high school level.

After the college entrance exam, Lin was drawn to GBU's distinctive "small yet refined" focus on high-level research. He attended an open day and ultimately made it his top choice.

At the forum, Lin spoke with academician Tian Gang, a key figure in GBU's founding, about the university's research-driven model. Tian highlighted GBU's world-class faculty, low student-to-teacher ratio, and strong support for student-led research.

GBU's first-year curriculum offers broad-based training, with chair professors teaching core courses to help students build self-awareness and integrate into university life—laying a strong foundation for future specialization. The university also adopts a dual-mentorship model that pairs academic and industry guidance, supports flexible academic pathways, and encourages internships at Greater Bay Area enterprises, as well as exchange programs with top international universities.
