On July 25, the 2025 National University Media Elite Training Camp held its inaugural graduation ceremony at Songshan Lake, Dongguan. Over the past week, 25 university students from across China engaged in an immersive journey of technological exploration, industrial discovery, urban experience, and dream building. The camp concluded with a multimedia showcase highlighting their insights and discoveries.
This July marks the fifth anniversary of Songshan Lake Science City as a key component of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area's national science center initiative. This year's event gathered students from top institutions—including Peking University, Harbin Institute of Technology, Hong Kong Polytechnic University, City University of Hong Kong, and Xi'an Jiaotong University—to explore Songshan Lake's progress in technology, industry, urban development, and talent cultivation.
Students visited key facilities—including the China Spallation Neutron Source, Songshan Lake Materials Laboratory, Center for Ultrafast Physics, and Bay Area Acoustics Laboratory—gaining firsthand insight into cutting-edge research and real-world applications. They also engaged with leading companies such as Sunshine Lake Pharma, Ruihua Optoelectronics, Direct Drive Tech, XbotPark, and the Digital Sports Health Innovation Zone, witnessing the drivers of industrial advancement.
Beyond industrial exploration, students visited Great Bay University, City University of Hong Kong (Dongguan), and Songshan Lake No.1 Middle School to experience forward-thinking educational models. They also explored local culture at the ULAND–SSL Cultural and Artistic Block and enjoyed activities like cycling around misty Pine Lake, kayaking, and rock climbing—sampling the area's vibrant lifestyle.
Throughout the camp, participants engaged in thought-provoking discussions on topics such as maximizing a 100-yuan investment in Songshan Lake, attracting top talent, and unlocking new technological possibilities. Their multimedia projects offered fresh perspectives on the city's identity—blending innovation, nature, and urban charm.
For the student journalists, Songshan Lake was more than a tech hub—it was a living classroom. "It's a rare chance to see what I usually only read about," said Li Qianxi from Tianjin University. "It's nothing like a typical industrial park—full of energy and youth," added Yu Cuizhu from Xiamen University.
