A new eco-friendly cycling path in the Xichong International Dark Sky Community was unveiled June 28, Nan'ao's first such trail. A cycling event was held to celebrate its launch, with over 100 cycling enthusiasts and tourists gathering at Xichong Beach No. 1 to become the first to experience the scenic 15-kilometer route.

A cycling event attracts participants of all age groups in the Xichong International Dark Sky Community.

Stretching from Xichong Beach No. 1 to Beach No. 4, the trail winds past key attractions, including the Xichong River, Getian Village, a bird-watching platform, freshwater streams, firefly habitats, and Yaxin Greenway. With over 90% greenery coverage and high concentrations of negative oxygen ions, the route offers a refreshing escape into nature.

“Usually, I rush to the finish line, but this slow ride let me truly appreciate the wildflowers, ocean breeze, and the harmony between nature and myself — it was incredibly soothing,” said a participant surnamed Li.

“Cycling, then exploring the market, trying surfing, and walking the greenway with a coffee — this is the perfect pace!” said Chen, another attendee.

The event also aligned with peak firefly season in the Dark Sky Community, encouraging visitors to stay overnight and experience the magical glow of these insects.

In recent years, Nan'ao has invested over 10 million yuan (US$1.39 million) to improve trail connectivity, facilities, and ecological conservation. The project seamlessly integrates coastal vistas, silver sand beaches, tranquil rivers, fish ponds, farmland, and villages, highlighting the area's commitment to sustainable development.
