Stormy, sultry weather persists as 1–2 typhoons may hit Guangzhou in late August

On August 1-2, most cities and counties across Guangdong are expected to experience (thunder) showers, with some areas receiving heavier rainfall, according to the Guangdong Meteorological Observatory.

Localized short-term gusts of wind reaching force 7 to 9 may occur during thunderstorms. While the intense heat will gradually ease, persistently high humidity will maintain mugginess, causing discomfort.

Maximum temperatures will reach 32–34°C in northern Shaoguan, northern Qingyuan, and most of western Guangdong, while other areas will see highs of 29–31°C.

August weather outlook for Guangzhou: Hot, rainy conditions with potential tropical cyclone threats

According to the Guangzhou Meteorological Observatory, frequent thunderstorms are expected over the next three days, accompanied by locally heavy rainfall. Strong convective weather, including short-term gusts of wind at force 7 to 9 and lightning, may occur during showers. Rainfall is expected to intensify starting August 2.

Of particular concern, 1 to 2 tropical cyclones may affect Guangzhou in the second half of August, and residents are advised to prepare early.
