Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport is bracing for weather disruptions on July 20 as Typhoon Wipha approaches the region. The airport has scheduled a total of 1,504 flights for the day, 749 arrivals and 755 departures, but adverse conditions are expected to impact operations.
According to forecasts, strong northerly winds between 8 to 12 meters per second, with gusts reaching up to 20 meters per second, are likely before 5 pm. Intermittent moderate to heavy rain, along with isolated thunderstorms, may persist until around 10 pm.
As of 11:40 am, flight operations remain generally stable, with 559 flights already completed, 239 arrivals and 320 departures. A total of 945 flights have yet to take off or land.
The airport is closely monitoring the evolving weather situation and has strengthened its operational readiness. Travelers are advised to check with their airlines for real-time updates on potential delays or cancellations.
